About us
In 2004, a dedicated group of volunteers had a vision for a Maine Fishermen's Monument and formed a nonprofit organization to realize that vision. Since then, the Maine Fishermen's Monument Commission has persevered to gain initial funding, conducted a nationwide search to find an artist, and worked with the Maine Arts Commission, Portland Public Art Committee, and a Maine-based artists team to create the art concept. The Commission has gained a commitment from the City of Portland that the Maine Fishermen's Monument will become the centerpiece public artwork in the City's Eastern Waterfront redevelopment district. With this firm foundation in place, the Commission is ready to begin a capital campaign to build the monument.
